Ebook About
A funny, sexy, and wildly entertaining look at the rewards of fully realized desire in the life of one ordinary woman. At 43 years old, Pamela Madsen was happily married to the man she fell in love with at 17. She was the mother of two sons and had a successful career as a nationally known advocate for fertility issues. But she felt a growing sexual restlessness and yearning that wouldn't let up. And though Pamela loved her husband and didn't want to have an affair, she knew deep down that she needed more, much more. In Shameless, she tells the story of how she found it—and not only kept her marriage intact but made it stronger than ever.In this fearless memoir, Pamela tells the story of her search for sexual, personal, and spiritual wholeness. She explores, in riveting detail, what she experienced at the hands of sexual healers, men who brought her untold pleasure (and became her close friends in the process). But this is not just another sex book: Shameless is also an account of how Pamela's journey healed her issues with food and body image and most important, helped her weave the many roles that she played—daughter, friend, partner, mother—into one fully integrated person. It is a story about a woman falling in love with herself and a call to other women to do the same.

Book Shameless: How I Ditched the Diet, Got Naked, Found True Pleasure...and Somehow Got Home in Time To Cook Dinner Review :

To be honest, reading this was like drinking sweet, cool, clear, drenching water after decades of parched desert. I left the book heartily hungry and upset with the kind of grief that Ms. Madsen mentions in Chapter 16. The book simply came along at the same time I'm walking across my own heaving Tacoma Narrows bridge from a dark life of quiet desperation to some kind of unrecognizable life of vibrant resonance. The book comes in two layers - first, Ms. Madsen's life and second, the deeper themes connecting her to many women (and probably men). The title reflects both layers. The first layer was sweet, but also something with which I have nothing in common: I'm not a mother of humans and I have no wish to be, I'm not a person who even wants to go to a spa, I don't want to get naked with other women in a group discussion, etc. Full disclaimer: I'm a GenXer: I don't have the Baby Boomeresque need to reconcile the disparate parts of my life. However, I do have a profound disconnection between my mind and body - not because of a generational thing, but because of life experience, especially early life. This is something that I think many woman can connect to. As a result, for me, I have so little sexual experience in any way that it's really just a source of grief. So to read this book and witness its second layer was a Balm of Gilead -- to read the story of a woman who recognizes that something's missing, that there's an undefined hole inside of her. We get to walk with Ms. Madsen on her journey to use her full female sexual energy - access and restore her full sacral energy, as it were.I also really valued the strong appreciation here for marriage, and how a lengthy marriage requires change, honesty, vulnerability, trust, and sometimes, stubborn downright dedication to each other. The value of this book to women is priceless. The value to men is in the learning of this idea that all humans, I believe, could do with a deeper exploration of their own sexual needs.I consumed this book so quickly that I only highlighted a few quotations. But these two in particular took my breath away:p. 68 "“It sounds to me like you’re a caged bird, pulling out your own feathers to keep your mind occupied,” Markus said. That struck deep. It was true. I hurt myself instead of letting myself be."p. 128 "I felt like I was being held by a force big enough and strong enough to contain all of me. It was a catharsis. I have never in my life believed that any one could hold all my energy. No one was powerful enough for me to truly surrender to. And here I was allowing myself that experience."
Why would a guy read a chick book? Which this is. Especially a retired priest? Well, might have something to do about a woman getting naked. We guys are interested in that. But this woman gets naked with her soul. Scary. But still nice.Yes, this is a book is a tell all about barely midlife woman getting undressed with her own best self. She starts under a sheet on a massage table in a classic setting. Not big at this point. Half of us have had such a massage. But she moves to where the sheet comes off, risking all to pursue her erotic awaking with sexual healers. She attends what she terms an erotic rehab clinic one naked touch session at a time with skilled body workers. And does it as a mom and wife, a friend and career lady without cheating on her husband. Nice. Having been cuckolded by a couple ladies myself, very nice.OK, the book is ghost written with an assist so we have to back off the praise to just Pamela Madsen some and toss a quiet bone to Anne Adams. But the real story is the coming out part and the integrity part and the naked part of this tail. I mean tale. With 39 short chapters it is a quick read, almost like a journal. And, it would be nothing without the soul bearing sex in the city styled lady friend debriefs and fore briefs and maybe even no briefs meetings of her four lady fiends, including her sister. It had to be hard to come out with Down There yet no P in the V encounters knowing your teen sons were soon to read of mom's journey. Hat's and pants off to this brave soul.My big takeaway is how this book is an honest soul journey most of all. Where Pamela's body comes along and every step. Hesitant for sure; but once enlightened, gushing. Nice. The story is more about her body image and finding her soul amidst all the extra 60 pounds and heaped on shame of her mother than about sex tales. How ecstatic to watch her own shaming self fall as she learns to do affirmations naked before a full length a mirror as homework assignments. More about soul healing than about the erotic pleasure of being at the healing hand of Mr. Rock or Mr. Next in the circle of NYC Sacred Intimacy workers she uncovers. The newest profession in the New Age movement? Sacred intimates? Dakas and Dakitas? Why not. Beats dry psychotherapy for sure. The best part is how her husband finds out about her secret erotic quest and supports her. Nice. Watch the movie Bliss where Terrance Stamp plays Balthazar the sexual healer. Wonderful.I lived much of this same story a decade back. The massage table. The vulva mirror. The naked "passionately dispassionate" sessions at the Y in Tantra class with friends. All sacred. All life changing. I was the guy who had been with damaged women and become damaged erotically. Loved to read another successful tale of making out of the dark woods of shame. I'm finishing up my memoir, Sex With Librarians and God for 2014. Pamela Madsen's account was encouraging.I felt like a bit of a guy traitor and pervert voyeur reading all this women stuff as a guy, as it is a book for ladies. But it was worth it. If you've ever wondered how to like yourself when you don't like yourself around your skin and body? Buy this book. Or your lady doesn't like herself naked? Buy her this book and read it together. And get the lovely tandem aid of the masterful picture book This Is Who I Am: Our Beauty in All Shapes and Sizes by Rosanne Olson where 54 women get naked for the camera and talk about what it's like. And then get ready with Ms Madsen for better sex and a happier family life. On the soul level even. Especially.I titled this review: For the healing of body and soul. That's the last sentence we all say aloud in our church before communion. Every single Sunday. Maybe it would be even more true if we all said it naked? I'm not sure our priest will go for it, however. I'll try.
